J. Parker MacCarthy, Q.C. - Associate Counsel

Parker MacCarthy conducts a wide-ranging general practice encompassing corporate and commercial law and planning, commercial financing and security, arbitration, mediation and negotiation, employment law, real estate development and financing, agricultural law, elder law and wills, trusts and estate planning, estates, and non-profit organizations.

Parker holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science (University of British Columbia) and a Bachelor of Laws degree (University of British Columbia). He was called to the Bar of British Columbia in 1976, and appointed Queen's Counsel in 1997. He is a member of the B.C. Arbitration and Mediation Institute and is formally trained in arbitration and mediation. In addition, he is a certified member of the Canadian Association of Farm Advisors.

Besides numerous volunteer activities in the Cowichan Valley, Parker is very active in the Canadian Bar Association (CBA) and he was the National President of the CBA for 2006-2007.

Parker has also served on and chaired numerous committees and held a variety of leadership positions within both the CBA, the Law Society of B.C., and other law related organizations including:

  • President of the B.C. Branch of the CBA;
  • Member of the CBA National Executive Committee;
  • Chair of the National General Practice, Solo and Small Firm Conference of the CBA;
  • President of both the Cowichan Bar and the Nanaimo County Bar Associations;
  • Director of the Legal Services Society of B.C.; and
  • Governor of the Law Foundation of B.C.
He has also received the Queen's Jubilee 50 Year Medal for his contributions to the legal community, to the development of law and to the administration of justice in Canada.
